THE BOOK OF PSALMS

Psalms 128-134

A Song of degrees.

1 ¶ Blessed is every one who fears the LORD; and walks in his ways.

2 For you will eat what your hands worked for: and you will be happy, and it will be well with you.

3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine inside your house: your children like olive plants around your table.

4 So you can see that a man who fears the LORD will be blessed.

5 The LORD will bless you from Zion: and you will see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

6 And you will see your children’s children, may peace be upon Israel.

Psalm 129

A Song of degrees.

1 ¶ Let Israel say, men have often attacked me from the time I was young:

2 They have attacked me often from the time I was young: yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 Plowmen plowed over my back: they made their furrows long.

4 But the LORD who is righteous: has cut away the ropes of the wicked.

5 ¶ Let those who hate Zion all be turned back in defeat.

6 Let them be like the grass on the housetops, that withers before it is fully grown:

7 So that no reaper can fill his hand with it; nor he who binds sheaves carry it against his bosom.

8 Then no one who passes by will say, May the blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD.

Psalm 130

A Song of degrees.

1 ¶ Out of the depths have I cried to you, O LORD.

2 Lord, hear my voice: let your ears be attentive to my cry for help.

3 If you, LORD, would not forgive our sins, O Lord, who would remain?

4 But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.

5 ¶ I wait for the LORD, I expectantly wait, and trust in his word.

6 My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning: yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

7 Let Israel trust in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is abundant redemption.

8 And he will redeem Israel from all his sins.

Psalm 131

A Song of degrees of David.

1 ¶ LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty: nor do I exercise myself about things I cannot understand, or things beyond my knowledge.

2 No I have calmed down and silenced my ambitions, like a child that has been weaned by his mother: my soul is like a weaned child.

3 Let Israel trust in the LORD now and for ever.

Psalm 132

A Song of degrees.

1 ¶ LORD, remember David, and all his troubles:

2 How he swore to the LORD, and vowed to the mighty God of Jacob;

3 I will certainly not go home, or go up to my bed;

4 I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber,

5 Until I find a place for the LORD, a home for the mighty God of Jacob.

6 Lo, we heard about the ark at Ephratah: we found it in the woods.

7 Let us go to his dwelling: and worship at his footstool.

8 Come, O LORD, into your resting place; you, and the ark of your might.

9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your saints shout for joy.

10 For your servant David’s sake do not turn away from your anointed.

11 ¶ The LORD has sworn in truth to David; and he will not deviate from it; I will set the fruit of your body upon your throne.

12 If your children keep my covenant and the truths that I teach them, their descendants will also sit upon your throne for evermore.

13 For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home.

14 Here is where I will stay forever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

15 I will abundantly bless her food: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints will shout aloud for joy.

17 There will I make a horn sprout up for David: and will prepare a lamp for my anointed.

18 I will clothe his enemies with shame: but the crown he wears will be glorious.

Psalm 133

A Song of degrees of David.

1 ¶ Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like fine oil on the head, that runs down on the beard, even Aaron’s beard: flowing down over the collar of his garments;

3 Like the dew of Hermon, coming down upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD ordained the blessing, of everlasting life.

Psalm 134

A Song of degrees.

1 ¶ Now, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who stand in the house of the LORD through the night.

2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.

3 May the LORD who made heaven and earth bless you from Zion.
