THE BOOK OF PROVERBS
Proverbs 11
1 ¶ A dishonest scale is an abomination to the LORD: but he delights in an honest weight.
2 ¶ When pride comes, disgrace follows: but with humility comes wisdom.
3 ¶ Good people are guided by their integrity: but the crookedness of transgressors will destroy them.
4 ¶ Riches will not be of any benefit on the day of God’s wrath: but righteousness will deliver a person from death.
5 ¶ The righteousness of the innocent will direct his way: but the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright will deliver them: but transgressors will be trapped by their own desires.
7 ¶ When a wicked man dies, what he hopes for dies with him: and the expectation of the wicked comes to nothing.
8 ¶ The righteous is rescued from trouble, and the wicked takes his place.
9 ¶ A hypocrite destroys his neighbor with his mouth: but the just will be delivered through knowledge.
10 ¶ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11 By the blessing of good people a town prospers: but the talk of the wicked tears it down.
12 ¶ He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor: but a man of understanding holds his peace.
13 A talebearer reveals secrets: but he who is trustworthy keeps a confidence.
14 ¶ Where there is no guidance, the people fall: but with many counselors there is safety.
15 ¶ He who guarantees a loan for a stranger will suffer for it: but the one who hates such agreements is safe.
16 ¶ A gracious woman wins respect: but violent men grasp riches.
17 ¶ A merciful man does good to his own soul: but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
18 ¶ The wicked man earns a deceitful wage: but the man who sows righteousness receives a sure reward.
19 ¶ As righteousness leads to life: so he who pursues evil does it to his own death.
20 ¶ Those who are of a crooked mind set are an abomination to the LORD: but those who are upright in their way are his delight.
21 ¶ Though hand join in hand, the wicked will not escape punishment: but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered.
22 ¶ The beauty of a woman who lacks good sense, is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.
23 ¶ The desire of the righteous brings good: but the hope of the wicked brings wrath.
24 ¶ There are those who give freely, and yet gain; and there are those who hang on to more than is right, yet tend to poverty.
25 ¶ The generous soul will prosper: and he who waters will also be watered himself.
26 ¶ The people will curse the man who withholds grain: but blessing will be on the head of the man who sells it.
27 ¶ He who is eager to do good will win favor: but trouble will come to him who seeks it.
28 ¶ He who trusts in his riches will fall: but the righteous will flourish like a branch.
29 ¶ He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind: and the fool will serve the wise.
30 ¶ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he who wins souls is wise.
31 ¶ If the righteous will be recompensed on earth: how much more the ungodly and wicked.
