THE BOOK OF NUMBERS

Numbers Chapter 10

¶ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

Make two silver trumpets; you shall make them of hammered work: that you may use them to call the congregation, and for breaking camp.

When they both are blown, the entire congregation shall assemble themselves before you at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

And if only one is blown, then the leaders, who are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves before you.

When you blow an alarm, then the camps on the east side shall go forward.

When you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps on the south side shall set out: they shall blow an alarm whenever they set out.

But when the congregation is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm.

And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and the use of the trumpets shall be a permanent statute for you throughout your generations.

When you go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresses you, you shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and you shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies.

Also in the day of rejoicing, and on your solemn days, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.

¶ And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony.

And the children of Israel set out from the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.

And they began their journey according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah by their companies: and over their host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethaneel the son of Zuar.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.

And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle.

And the standard of the camp of Reuben set out according to their companies: and over their host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

And the Kohathites set out, bearing the sanctuary: and the others set up the tabernacle before they arrived.

And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set out according to their companies: and over their host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.

And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan, which was the rear guard of all the camps, set out by their companies: and over their host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ocran.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.

Thus was the order of march of the children of Israel according to their companies, when they set out.

¶ And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses’ father in law, We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, I will give it to you: come with us, and we will do you good: for the LORD has promised good concerning Israel.

And Hobab said to him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.

And Moses said, Do not leave us, I pray you; for you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us.

And if you go with us, it shall be, that whatever good the LORD does to us, the same we will do to you.

And they departed from the mountain of the LORD three days’ journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them.

And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they went forward from the camp.

And it came to pass, when the ark set out, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let your enemies be scattered; and let those who hate you flee before you.

And when it stopped, he said, Return, O LORD, to the many thousands of Israel.
