THE BOOK OF MATTHEW

Matthew Chapter 28

¶ After the sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.

And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and going to the tomb rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.

His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow:

And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.

And the angel spoke and said to the women, Do not be afraid: for I know that you seek Jesus, who was crucified.

He is not here: for he has risen, just as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Then go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, he goes before you into Galilee; you will see him there: now, I have told you.

And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy; and ran to tell his disciples.

And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, Greetings. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid: go tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and they will see me there.

¶ Now when they were going, some of the guards went into the city, and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.

And when the chief priests had met with the elders, and had conferred, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,

Saying, You must say, His disciples came during the night, and stole his body while we were asleep.

And if the governor hears of this, we will satisfy him, and keep you out of trouble.

So they took the money, and did as they were told: and this story is widely circulated among the Jews to this day.

¶ Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

And Jesus came to them, and said, All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.

Therefore go, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you: and, remember, I will always be with you, even to the end of the world. Amen.
