THE BOOK OF MARK

Mark Chapter 11

¶ When they were getting near to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples ahead,

Saying to them, Go into the village in front of you: and as soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever ridden; untie it, and bring it here.

And if anyone asks you, Why are you doing this? tell him that the Lord needs it; and he will send it back here right away.

And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside where two streets met; and they untied it.

And some people standing there asked them, What are you doing, untying that colt?

And they answered as Jesus had told them to: and the people let them go.

And they brought the colt to Jesus, and put their cloaks on it; and he sat upon it.

And many people spread their cloaks on the road: and others cut branches off the trees, and spread them on the road.

And those who went ahead, and those who followed, shouted, Hosanna; Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord:

Blessed is the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

And Jesus entered Jerusalem, and went into the temple: and after looking around at everything, since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

¶ And on the next day, as they were leaving Bethany, he was hungry:

And seeing a fig tree in the distance that had leaves, he went, to see if he could find any fruit on it: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; because it was not yet the season for figs.

Then Jesus said to the tree, May no one ever eat fruit from you again. And his disciples heard it.

And they came to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to throw out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of those who sold doves;

And would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple.

And he taught, saying to them, Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? but you have made it a den of thieves.

And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought some way to destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people were amazed at his doctrine.

And when evening had come, he left the city.

And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

And Peter remembering said to him, Master, look, the fig tree that you cursed has withered away.

And Jesus answering said to them, Have faith in God.

For I tell you truly, That whoever will say to this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass; it will be done for him.

Therefore I tell you, Whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him: so that your Father who is in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

But if you do not forgive, your Father who is in heaven will not forgive your trespasses.

¶ And they again came to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, came to him,

And asked him, By what authority are you doing these things? and who gave you the authority to do these things?

And Jesus replied saying, I will also ask you one question, answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? tell me.

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not believe him?

But if we say, From men; they were afraid of the people: for everyone believed that John was really a prophet.

And they answered by saying to Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus said, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
