THE BOOK OF JOB

Job Chapter 40

¶ Moreover, the LORD said to Job,

Shall he who contends with the Almighty instruct him? let him who argues with God give answer.

Then Job replied to the LORD, saying,

Behold, I am vile; what can I say to you? I will cover my mouth with my hand.

I have spoken once; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

¶ Then the LORD replied to Job out of the whirlwind, saying,

Prepare to answer me like a man: for I will question you, so answer me.

Will you also set aside my judgment? will you condemn me, so that you may be righteous?

Do you have an arm like God? or can you thunder with a voice like his?

Then adorn yourself with majesty and excellence; and array yourself with glory and beauty.

Pour forth your raging anger: look at every one who is proud, and abase him.

Look on every one who is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked where they stand.

Hide them in the dust together; and imprison them in the hidden place.

Then even I will praise you and your own right hand can save you.

¶ Look at behemoth, whom I made when I made you; he eats grass as an ox.

Consider the strength in his sides, and the power in the muscles of his belly.

He moves his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his thighs are wrapped together.

His bones are like strong pieces of brass; his ribs are like bars of iron.

He is a prime evidence of God’s power: only he who made him can raise his sword against him.

Surely the mountains provide him with food, where all the wild animals play.

He lies under the shady trees, in a hiding place in the reeds, and marsh.

The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook surround him.

Though the river rages, he is not afraid: he is confident even if a river surges up to his mouth.

Can anyone capture him when he is watching: or pierce his nose with a snare.
