THE BOOK OF JOB

Job Chapter 35

¶ Elihu spoke further, and said,

Do you think it is right, for you to say, I am righteous before God?

For you ask, What does it profit you? and, What benefit will I have, if I do not sin?

I will answer you, and your companions with you.

Look to the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than you.

If you sin, what have you done against him? or if your transgressions are multiplied, what have you done to him?

If you are righteous, what have you given him? or what does he receive from your hand?

Your wickedness may hurt a man like yourself; and your righteousness may profit the children of men.

¶ Because of severe oppression the oppressed cry out: they cry for help because of the violence of the mighty.

Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of heaven?

There they cry, but he does not answer them, because evil men are proud.

Surely God will not answer an empty cry, nor will the Almighty hear it.

¶ Although you say you cannot see him, yet your case is before him; therefore trust in him.

But now, because God does not punish in his anger; and seems to be unaware of the wrong:

Job opens his mouth in foolish talk; and multiplies words without knowledge.
