FIRST CORINTHIANS

First Corinthians 12

¶ Now, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant concerning spiritual gifts.

You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to idols that cannot speak, even as you were led.

Therefore I want you to understand, that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God will ever curse Jesus: and no one can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Now different gifts are distributed, but the Spirit is the same.

And different ministries are given, but the Lord is the same.

And power is given, but it is the same God who works all in all.

But the gift of the Spirit is given to every man for the profit of all.

For to one the Spirit gives the ability to speak with wisdom; to another the same Spirit gives the ability to speak with knowledge;

To another the same Spirit gives faith; to another the same Spirit gives gifts of healing;

To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another the ability to distinguish between spirits; to another various languages; to another the interpretation of languages:

But all these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each man as he will.

¶ For the body is a unit, even though it is made up of many parts, and even though the body has many parts, they constitute one body: it is the same with Christ.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether we are Jews or Gentiles, whether we are slaves or free; and we have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

For the body is not one member, but many.

If a foot were to say, Because I am not a hand, I am not part of the body; that would not change the fact that it is part of the body.

And if an ear were to say, Because I am not an eye, I am not part of the body; that would not change the fact that it is part of the body.

If the whole body was an eye, how would it hear? If the whole body was an ear, how would it smell?

But God has arranged every one of the parts of the body, just as he wanted them to be.

If there was only one part, where would the body be?

As it is there are many members, yet only one body.

And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you: nor can the head say to the feet, I have no need of you.

On the contrary, those members of the body, that seem to be weaker, are very important:

And we give special honor to the parts of the body, that we regard as least worthy of honor; and our unpresentable parts are treated with a special modesty.

That our presentable parts have no need for: but God has brought the members of the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it:

That there should be no division in the body; but that the members should have equal concern for each another.

And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

¶ Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

And in the church God has appointed, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helpers, administrators, different languages.

Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? do all work miracles?

Do all have gifts of healing? do all speak in other languages? do all interpret?

But eagerly desire the best gifts: and now I will show you an even better way.
