THE BOOK OF EZEKIEL

Ezekiel Chapter 9

¶ Then he called out in a loud voice for me to hear, saying, Cause those who have charge over the city to come near, each with his battle axe in his hand.

So six men came from the upper gate, which faced toward the north, and each man had a battle axe in his hand; and one man among them was clothed in linen, with a writer’s inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the bronze altar.

And the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub, upon which it rested, to the threshold of the temple. And he called to the man dressed in linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn by his side;

And the LORD said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and place a mark on the foreheads of the men that sigh and mourn over all the detestable things that are done in its midst.

¶ Then he told the others while I was listening, Follow him through the city, and strike people down: do not show any pity, or feel sorry:

Slay outright old and young, virgins, little children, and women: but do not come near anyone upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. So they started with the elders who were in front of the temple.

And he said to them, Defile the temple, and fill its courts with the dead: now go. So they went out killing people in the city.

And while they were killing them, and I was left, I fell upon my face, and cried, saying, Ah Lord GOD! will you destroy all that is left of Israel when you pour out your wrath upon Jerusalem?

Then said he to me, The wickedness of the house of Israel and Judah is very great, the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD has forsaken the earth, and the LORD does not see.

So I will not show any more pity, or feel sorry, but I will give them what they deserve.

And, behold, the man dressed in linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported back, saying, I have done as you have commanded me.
