THE BOOK OF EXODUS

Exodus Chapter 3

¶ Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and saw the bush burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.

And Moses said, I must go over there, and see this great sight. Why isn’t the bush burning up?

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am.

And he said, Do not come near: remove your shoes from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.

He then said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

¶ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a large and good land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Now behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me: and I have seen how the Egyptians are oppressing them.

Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

¶ And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?

And he said, I will surely be with you; and this will be the sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have led the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.

And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the children of Israel, and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you; and they ask me, What is his name? what should I say to them?

And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM: therefore you will say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me unto you.

God also said to Moses, Tell the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and by this I am to be remembered to all generations.

¶ Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen what is done to you in Egypt:

And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

And they will listen to you: and you, with the elders of Israel, will go to the king of Egypt, and you will say to him, The LORD God of the Hebrews has met with us: now please let us make a three day journey into the desert, so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not unless forced by a mighty hand.

So I will stretch out my hand, and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst of it: and after that he will let you go.

And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians: and it will come to pass, that, when you go, you will not leave empty-handed:

But every woman will ask her neighbor, and any woman staying in her house, for jewelry of silver and gold, and for clothing: and you will put them on your sons and daughters; so you shall plunder the Egyptians.
