Ecclesiastes
Chapter 11
1
¶ Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days.
2
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you do not know what evil will
be upon the earth.
3
If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth: and
if a tree falls toward the south, or toward the north, the tree will lie in the
place where it fell.
4
He who watches the wind will not sow; and he who looks at the clouds will not reap.
5
As you do not know how the spirit comes, or how the bones grow in
the womb of a woman who is with child: even so you do not know the work of God
who makes everything.
6
In the morning sow your seed, and do not let your hand rest till evening: for
you do not know which of the things you sow will do well, this or that, or if
both of them will be equally good.
7
¶ Truly the light is sweet, and it is pleasing for the eyes to
see the sunlight:
8
Yes, if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in all of them; yet let him
remember the days of darkness; for they will be many. All that comes is
futile.
9
Enjoy yourself, young man, while you are young; and let your heart make you
happy while you are still young and vigorous, follow the ways of your heart,
and the sight of your eyes: but realize, that for all these things God
will make you give account.
10
Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and rid your life of evil: for
childhood and the prime of life are vanity.
