Lesson 27

The Judgment And The End Of The World

"When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats." - Saint Matthew 25, 31- 32.

1. What will be the second act of Christ in His second coming?

"He hath appointed a day in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He hath ordained." - Acts 17, 31.

After the resurrection of the dead and the change of those who have lived to see Christ's second coming, all nations shall be gathered before Him, and He will separate the righteous from the wicked.

2. Who will be judged?

"We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." - 2 Corinthians 5, 10.

All men will be judged.  The believer, however, will not receive a condemnatory judgment, since the sins are forgiven through faith in Christ.

3. By what very practical standard does the heavenly Judge separate the righteous from the wicked?

"He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.  Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave Me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink: I was a Stranger, and ye took Me in: Naked, and ye clothed Me: I was sick, and ye visited Me: I was in prison, and y came unto Me." - Satin Matthew 25, 33-36.

"For I was an hungred, and ye gave Me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave Me no drink: I was a Stranger and ye took Me not in: naked, and ye clothed Me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited Me not." - Saint Matthew 25, 42-43.

By the good works of the righteous, as giving evidence of their faith; and by the evil works of the wicked, as giving evidence of their unbelief.

4. By whom will the final sentence be pronounced?

"He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteouness by that Man whom He hath ordained." - Acts 17, 31.

"God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ." - Romans 2, 16.

It will be pronounced by God through Jesus Christ.

5. What is the sentence of God upon mankind?

"Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: and these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal." - Saint Matthew 25, 41 and 16.

For the wicked it will be just damnation to everlasting punishment.

"Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." - Saint Matthew 25, 34 and 46.

For the righteous it will be a gracious assignment to life everlasting.

6. What will be the Savior's third act on His second coming after He has judged the living and the dead?

"I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." - Revelation 21,1.

The Savior will at the same time bring about the last day of this world, the day of its end, when heaven and earth shall come to ruin and pass away.

7. How shall the earth be destroyed?

"But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat." - 2 Saint Peter 3, 7, 10 and 12.

They shall pass away by being consumed in fire.

8, What shall take the place of this present world?

"Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind." - Isaiah 65, 17.

"We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." - 2 Saint Peter 3, 13.

"I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." - Revelation 21,1.

God will create a new heaven and a new earth.
