THE BOOK OF AMOS

Amos Chapter 9

¶ I saw the Lord standing by the altar: and he said, Strike the tops of the pillars, until the thresholds shake: and shatter them on the heads of the people; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: none of those who flee will get away, for none of them will escape.

Even if they dig down to hell, my hand will bring them from there; though they climb up to heaven, I will bring them down from there:

And though they hide themselves on the top of Mount Carmel, I will search for them there and get them; and though they are hidden from my sight at the bottom of the sea, I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them:

And though they go into captivity before their enemies, there I will command the sword, and it will slay them: and I will fix my eyes upon them for harm, and not for good.

When the Lord GOD of armies touches the land, it will tremble, and everyone who dwells in it will mourn: it will rise up like a flood; and subside, like the Nile in Egypt.

It is he who establishes his chambers over the heavens, and spreads the skies over the earth; he who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.

Are you any different than the Ethiopians to me, O children of Israel? asks the LORD. Haven’t I brought Israel up out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Crete, and the Syrians from Kir?

Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will wipe it off of the face of the earth; but I will not totally destroy the house of Jacob, says the LORD.

For I will give the command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, as something is sifted in a sieve, yet the smallest kernel will not fall to the ground.

All the sinners among my people will die by the sword, those who say, Disaster will never overtake us or get at us.

¶ At that time I will raise up the tabernacle of David that has fallen, and repair its gaps; and restore its ruins, and I will build it as it was long ago:

That they may possess what is left of Edom, and all the nations, that are called by my name, says the LORD who does this.

Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that the plowman will overtake the reaper, and the one who tramples the grapes him who sows seed; and the mountains will drop sweet wine, and all the hills will flow with it.

And I will bring back the captives of my people of Israel, and they will rebuild the ruined cities, and live in them; and they will plant vineyards, and drink the wine from them; they will also make gardens, and eat the fruit from them.

And I will plant them in their land, and they will no longer be uprooted from the land that I have given them, says the LORD your God.
