Acts Chapter 9

¶ Then Saul, still breathing out threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

And requested from him letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any following this way, whether men or women, he might bring them to Jerusalem in chains.

Now as he traveled, and was nearing Damascus: a light from heaven suddenly shone around him:

And he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?

And he said, Who are you, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you are persecuting: it is hard for you to kick against the pricks.

And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what do you want me to do? And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.

And the men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no one.

And Saul got up from the ground; but when he opened his eyes, he could not see anything: so they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

And he was blind for three days, and did not eat or drink anything.

¶ In Damascus there was a certain disciple, named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

And the Lord said to him, Get up, and go to the street that is called Straight, and ask at the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for he is praying,

And has seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and placing his hands on him, to restore his sight.

Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many about this man, and how much evil he has done to your saints in Jerusalem:

And here he has authority from the chief priests to arrest everyone who calls on your name.

But the Lord said to him, Go your way: for this man is a chosen vessel of mine, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

For I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.

And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming, has sent me, so that you might receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

And instantly as if scales fell from his eyes: he could see again, and he got up and was baptized.

And after he had eaten some food, he was strengthened. Then Saul remained with the disciples who were at Damascus for several days.

And he at once began to preach Christ in the synagogues, affirming that he is the Son of God.

But all who heard him were amazed, and asked; Is not this the man who destroyed those who called on Christ’s name in Jerusalem, and came here for that purpose, so that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?

But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus, proving that Jesus is the Messiah.

¶ And after many days had passed, the Jews conspired to kill him:

But Saul learned of their plan. And they watched the gates day and night intending to kill him.

But the disciples took him at night, and lowered him down through the wall in a basket.

And when Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join with the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple.

But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and told them how he had seen the Lord along the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.

So Saul stayed with them coming in and going out freely in Jerusalem.

And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed with the Grecians: but they were planning to kill him.

However when the brethren learned of it, they took him down to Caesarea, and sent him off to Tarsus.

Then the churches throughout the whole of Judea, Galilee and Samaria, had peace and were edified; and continued to increase, walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost.

¶ And it came to pass, as Peter traveled through the country, he went down to the saints who lived at Lydda.

And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years, and was paralyzed.

And Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you: get up, and make your bed. And he arose immediately.

And everyone who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him, and turned to the Lord.

¶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated as Dorcas: this woman was always doing good and helping the poor.

And at that time, she became sick, and died: and when her body was washed, they placed her in an upstairs room.

And since Lydda was near to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, requesting him to come to them without delay.

So Peter arose and went with them. When he arrived, they brought him into the upstairs room: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments that Dorcas had made, while she was with them.

But Peter put them all out, and kneeled down, and prayed; and facing the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

And it came about, that Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.
