The Abortion Philosophy vs. The Judeo-Christian Ethic

In this presentation, I propose to develop three areas:
 1. Exactly what constitutes the basic underlying abortion philosophy?
 2. Why is this philosophy so hideous and dangerous to all mankind?
 3. How does this destructive philosophy conflict with the historic Judeo-Christian value system?

1

There are many arguments used by abortionists to justify their position.
Examples are:
 1. Every woman has a right to do what she wants with her own body. (Refutation: She cannot legally mutilate herself by cutting off her arm, leg, nose or ears if she wants to do so even though these are integral parts of her own body. it is even illegal to commit suicide. An unborn child is a separate, independent human being with genes, personality and a distinct individuality of its own. it nests in the mother's body for nourishment and protection only until it is able to live without that protection and nourishment).

  2. The U.S. Supreme Court has declared that the unborn is not a "person" and therefore has no constitutional right to life. (Refutation: This same argument was used against black slaves by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1857 Dred Scott decision. Americans fought the bloodiest war in their history to reverse that decision. Must we endure a similar tragedy before the unborn is again a "person"?)

  3. Abortions are necessary to prevent over population. (Refutation: This out-moded Maltlhusian theory has been disproved time after time and is in process of being disproved again today. Our present birth-rate of 1.8 children per family will bring us a rapidly declining population as we are not even replacing ourselves. Witness the rapidly declining school population.)

  4. It may be mentally or psychologically undesirable for a woman to bear an unwanted child. (Refutation: Pregnancy normally arouses a deep-seated maternal instinct in a woman. Denial of fulfillment by killing her child may create a deep-seated guilt complex that a mother can carry for the rest of her life. Many such women are actively participating in Birthright and Women Exploited so as to counsel against abortions.)

  5. An unwanted child is better off to be aborted than to be born. (Refutation: There is presently such an insatiable demand for children for adoption, that many childless couples desiring children are going to the orient to find them. At one time there was a surplus of black children available for adoption, but even this surplus no longer exists.)

The preceding arguments are, however, merely persiflage or window dressing for the basic underlying philosophy of the abortionists. When you strip away all of the above arguments and get down to their ultimate hideous philosophy it boils down to just this:

LIQUIDATION OF THE UNWANTED IS JUSTIFIED.

2

Why is this abortionist philosophy so hideous and dangerous to all mankind? Perhaps a good modern laboratory in which to examine this philosophy is Germany from 1920 to 1945.

In the early 1920's a group of avante guarde German intellectuals and medical doctors, some of them Jewish, wrote a series of books, articles, essays and lectured on the desirability of abortions for such unborn as would be a burden on German society, with particular emphasis on mongoloids and those with obvious deformities. Thus the opening wedge for Germany was driven in developing the philosophy that liquidation of the unwanted is justified.

After this philosophy was established for the unborn, the next natural sequence was euthanasia for burdensome children after birth, - infanticide for the unwanted. Pictures of such unfortunates were circulated to justify their liquidation. Gas chambers for painless death in such instances were established in German hospitals - again under the dangerous premise that liquidation of these unwanted is justified. The next natural progression was euthanasia of the useless insane, the feeble minded, or senile adults; - after all, - liquidation of the unwanted is justified, isn't it? This continued until word began to get around among the elderly as to what was happening, so that many of the elderly began refusing to enter hospitals. Gas chambers were then moved to the prisons. It must be kept in mind that this progression occurred BEFORE Hitler came to power.

After Hitler and the Nazis took over the German government, it was a simple matter for them to take this dangerous philosophy the next logical step by declaring that liquidation of those unwanted for racial or political reasons is also justified. So step by step we finally arrive at the ultimate hideous holocaust where millions of Jews as well as the purest Aryans were liquidated because they were unwanted for racial reasons in the case of the Jews and for political reasons in the case of the Aryans.

The Moslems likewise liquidated Europeans as they invaded from the east and through Spain. During the Spanish Inquisition, so-called Christians mutilated and liquidated non-Christians, many of whom were Jews, because those in power declared that liquidation of  non-Christians is justified. The terrorist wholesale executions of the French Revolution
were the result of the same hideous philosophy; namely that liquidation of the unwanted opposition is justified.

I have a direct personal interest in the French Revolution as my paternal grandmother's family fled Paris to escape slaughter by the guillotine and sought refuge in German Alsace, changing their name from the French "Mortier" to the more Germanic "Beck," so as to avoid identity. All those opposed to the French Revolution were liquidated. The guillotine was invented so that slaughter could be expedited more efficiently. The entire province of Vendee was ordered exterminated. A province in France is the equivalent of a state in the U.S.A. To give an American analogy, this would compare to Nixon ordering the extermination of all people in Massachusetts, because this state voted for McGovern, or Franklin D. Roosevelt ordering the liquidation of the Maine and Vermont population after they voted for Landon. General Westerman who was in charge of this unspeakable butchery, boasted as follows to the Committee of Public Welfare in Paris:

"The Vendee, republican fellow citizen, no longer exists. She is dead under our sabers, together with her women and children. I have just buried her in the swamps and forests of Savenay. Following the orders you gave me, I have trampled the children to death with our horses. I have massacred the women, and they are no longer going to give birth to any more brigands. I am not guilty of taking a single prisoner. I have exterminated them all... The roads are covered with corpses. There are so many of them at several places, they form pyramids. The firing squads work incessantly at Savenay since every moment brigands arrive who pretend that they will surrender as prisoners ... but we are not taking any. One would be forced to feed them with the bread of liberty but compassion is not a revolutionary virtue."

Compassion for the unborn is not a virtue of the abortionist either. Stalin liquidated some 7 million unwanted Ukrainian Kulaks. Russia has had difficulty feeding itself ever since because the kulaks had been such efficient independent farmers, that Russia had been a wheat exporter prior to the kulak liquidation. Mao Tse Tung liquidated some 20 million unwanted Chinese,  and more recently the Communists in Cambodia liquidated the entire population of Phenom Pehn, an unwanted city of about a million people. In the last few weeks it has become evident that Dictator Idi Amin of Uganda is also proceeding with this same philosophy,-that liquidation of the unwanted is justified. Remembering that the Nazi holocaust had its "innocent" beginning with abortion of the unwanted, what can we expect in the good old U.S.A. after our public and its rulers become thoroughly conditioned with this same hideous philosophy?

For thousands of years, the Judeo-Christian standard of virtue has unequivocally condemned abortion, both in the Old and in the New Testaments of the bible. This has continued to be the uncompromising position of Bible believing Jews and Christians for centuries. There are those today who call themselves Jews and Christians who do not accept Holy Scriptures to be the very Word of God, but I do not speak for them. They range from those who consider the Bible to be a discredited collection of myths and fables, to those who are selective about what they believe in the Bible, thus making themselves the logical target of the situation ethics of secular humanism so prevalent today.

While there are other pertinent Bible passages that refer directly or indirectly to various aspects of abortion, I shall comment on only four, two from the Old and two from the New Testament.

This first one is a classic that has often been repeated:

Exodus 21:22-25. If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow; he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, and for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, strips for stripe.

This passage clearly equates the fetus' life and well-being with that of the mother; the word "fruit" clearly indicating this to be the unborn child. If the child and mother survive such an induced premature birth satisfactorily the husband may demand and receive judgment for damages. Should any injury or loss of life be sustained by either mother or child as a result of such an induced premature birth, the party responsible for inducing it shall be given the same punishment as was sustained by either mother or child.

Contrary to the Roe vs. Wade decision of our U.S. Supreme Court on the infamous day of January 22, 1973, Jehovah here equates the personhood of the unborn child with the personhood of its mother.

Jeremiah 1:4,5. Then came the word of the Lord unto me, saying, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the Nations."

To the Bible believing Jew or Christian this passage conforms the personhood of the unborn child with more certainty then did the previous passage, because it clearly demonstrates personhood FROM CONCEPTION. There is not quibbling as to whether heart beat, brain waves or independent movement determine personhood. Some 2,500 years ago Jehovah asserted this to be a fact, something that our genetic scientists have confirmed in just the last few years.

Matthew 1:18-25. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, "Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost." And she shall being forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins." Now this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is 'God with us'." Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel had bidden him and took unto him his wife; and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son; and he called his name Jesus."

This New Testament passage is pertinent because it shows the gulf between ancient times and the zeitgeist of today's situation ethics. Had Joseph consulted marriage or Planned Parenthood counselors of today, how many would have recommended that Jesus be aborted before Joseph should take Mary as his wife? By the mores of today's secular humanism Jesus would have been aborted-an unthinkable thought for any Bible believing Christian. In addition, Joseph respected this pregnancy so completely that he refrained from any sexual intercourse with Mary until after Jesus was born. How does this square with the standards of our modern sexuality buffs?

Luke 1:39-41. And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb, and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost. The babe which leaped in Elisabeth's womb was John the Baptist.

This passage is a third conformation of the personhood of the unborn child, who apparently knew that the Savior whom John was to herald, was present in the womb of Mary. The hideous philosophy of abortion today can lead us to the same eventual genocide as committed by the Nazis, the pagan Romans, the Moslem scourge, the Spanish inquisition, The French Revolution and the many Marxist atrocities. Since my family was directly involved with the French Revolution, may I offer one more quote. Just as Jews are rightfully sensitive about the Nazis, so I am sensitive about what my family endured during the French Revolution.

Beauvais relates this about the massacre of the residents of Vendee, "all the wounded in the hospital were massacred in the most fiendish way. Incisions were made on their footsoles and all their members without exception were cut off bit by bit, The women were exactly the same way until, finally cartridges were inserted in their private parts in order to terminate their lives and their suffering with an explosion."

There is not reason for bloody abortionist to recoil in ghastly horror at such fiendish sadism, when their hideous philosophy has been responsible for inflicting agonizing death and cruel dismemberment on millions of the innocent unborn? Where are those social gospellers who use the love theology to plead against capital punishment for convicted murderers but then counsel in behalf of the torture and extermination of the unborn?

Some 1900 years ago it was legal under pagan Roman law for mothers to commit infanticide. This was commonly done by abandoning infants outside the cities so that they would be devoured by birds and beasts of prey. The earliest Christian social service and performed by the first Christians in Ephesus, who searched the hills around this city daily, placing such abandoned children in Christian orphanages. Whatever humanitarian qualities Western civilization has acquired as contrasted with that of the pagans has come about because of the influence of the Judeo-Christian ethic, which has always held that every human being is a creation of God in His Image and therefore, the right to life is to be respected. When we lose this humanitarian element we shall revert to the paganism of the Romans, the Nazis, the French Revolutionists, the Marxists and all their pagan systems which have no respect for human life.

A well known theologian mentioned in a private meeting recently that historically God is tolerant of gross iniquity only up to a certain point, after which He does something drastic about it. As examples he have the Great Flood described in Genesis, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and more recently the scourge of the Nazis. Ninevah was scheduled for destruction too until it repented as related in the book of Jonah. This theologian feels that we are building up to a similar scourge unless our nation stops and repents of wholesale abortions. It is up to the Scripture believing Jews and Christians to expose the hideous abortion philosophy for the Satanic, fiendish genocide that it really advocates. If we don't do it, who else will?
