FIRST CHRONICLES

Chronicles Chapter 20

¶ After the year had ended, at the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led out the army, and laid waste to the country of the children of Ammon, and went and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab defeated Rabbah, and destroyed it.

Then David took the crown from their king’s head, and found that it weighed a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was placed on David’s head: and he also took much spoil from the city.

And he brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, iron harrows, and axes. David dealt the same way with all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all his troops returned to Jerusalem.

¶ After this war broke out with the Philistines at Gezer; at that time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, who was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.

And there was another war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam.

And there was another battle at Gath, and a man of great stature was there, whose fingers and toes numbered twenty-four, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he was also a descendant of the giant.

But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of David’s brother Shimea killed him.

These were born to the giant in Gath; and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
