FIRST CHRONICLES

Chronicles Chapter 13

¶ David consulted with the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.

And David said to the entire congregation of Israel, If it seems good to you, and if it is of the LORD our God, let us send word to our brethren everywhere, who are left in the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and suburbs, that they may join with us:

And let us bring back the ark of our God: for we did not inquire at it during the days of Saul.

And the entire assembly said that they would do so: for the thing seemed right in the eyes of all the people.

So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor the brook of Egypt to the enterance of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjathjearim.

And David, and all Israel, went up to Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of the LORD God, which is called by the name of him who dwells between the cherubim.

And they carried the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

¶ And when they came to the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he struck him, because he put his hand on the ark: and he died there before God.

And David was displeased, because the LORD had broken forth upon Uzza: so that place is called Perez-uzza to this day.

And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How can I bring the ark of God home to me?

So David did not bring the ark home to the city of David, but took it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house for three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.
